De-constructed chicken pot pie

One of my all-time favorite types of food has always been comfort food. There's something amazing about the fact that a warm dish can make you feel so satisfied. I recently came across a recipe (here) for chicken pot pie that does not include the typical puff pastry crust around the top. Instead, you layer buttered egg/country white bread in a single layer, and bake until you get a perfect golden crust. It's less bread (you can pick and choose as much or as little as you want to have), and to me, it's more delicious. Don't mind the fact that I had already eaten a big bowlful before taking this picture. It is really that good, and so easy to prepare! I highly recommend this for a quiet, cold night in, or to bring to a pot luck dinner with friends.

Turning 28/Contest Winner

Hello! Things have been very busy for me lately. I just came back from a short trip to Vegas, and spent Super Bowl in the car driving home. My birthday, also, was a huge success! I celebrated with friends at a campfire-themed bar, went to Disneyland, and sang karaoke. Turning 28 definitely feels different than any other age in the past few years, but I've embraced it with open arms.

Oh and on another note... congrats to the winner of my birthday contest... SARAH!

Sarah.. please contact me at this address (circusofcakesblog@gmail.com) with the subject line "CONTEST" and provide your mailing address in the body of the e-mail. I will send your prize out as soon as I can. I'll let you know when it ships. :)

Thanks to all who entered! I had so much fun doing it, and I will definitely make more contests in the future.

Just some of my birthday presents that I got from my boyfriend.  If you haven't heard of it already, I highly recommend checking out Catbird NYC. They have an amazing selection of jewelry, plus they sell candles, fun gift sets, beauty products, and more. Their shop is located in Brooklyn, and I would go there in a heartbeat if I could!

Disneyland was the best. We went on a whim, and spent the entire day graced without any lines for rides. At night, we met my parents for dinner at Mario Batali's restaurant PIzzeria Mozza and I came home to a new episode of New Girl and my cuddly, adorable cat. This birthday was perfect, and I couldn't ask for anything more.

Chris and I spent around 24 hours in Las Vegas over the weekend, joining friends at MGM Grand for a comedy show. We ate at Emeril Lagasse's creole restaurant where we dined on fish, pancetta mac & cheese, and the best red wine. Oh, and I couldn't resist stepping into the Beatles Love shop to buy a couple of things to bring home, namely a Hard Day's Night fridge magnet, and a newsboy cap inspired by John Lennon.
